Getting to Lake Toba is relatively easy thanks to several convenient transportation options. Most travelers arrive via Silangit International Airport (DTB), which is the closest airport to the lake and serves flights from Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and other major cities.
From the airport, you can take a taxi, private car, or shuttle service directly to Parapat, the main gateway to Samosir Island. Alternatively, you can fly to Kualanamu International Airport (KNO) in Medan and continue by car or bus for about 4–5 hours.
Once you arrive at Lake Toba, getting around is simple and enjoyable. Ferries run regularly between Parapat and Samosir Island, making it easy to explore different parts of the lake.
On Samosir, you can rent a motorbike, bicycle, or car to visit trails, traditional villages, and scenic viewpoints. For those staying on the mainland, taxis and local transport are available, ensuring you can move comfortably between towns and hiking spots.
